Sustainability in Focus: Challenges, Regulations and Solutions in Plant Trade

Our producers
Our team is crazy about our green amigos and we love to share this passion with you. We attach great importance to working with producers who do their part to produce with minimal impact on the environment. And how can we best ensure this? By making sure that they have the MPS-A certificate! This certificate is awarded by the MPS (More Profitable Sustainability) organization. Regular checks measure whether the use of pesticides, fertilizers, energy and water as well as waste disposal and recycling are environmentally friendly during plant production. This certificate gives us insight into measurable values that help us select suitable producers.
Producers must meet strict criteria and undergo regular audits to obtain and maintain the certificate. The following aspects are checked:
- Use of pesticides: The use of chemical pesticides must be minimized and testing or prevention.
- Use of fertilizers: The use of fertilizers must be efficient and economical and soil quality must not be impaired.
- Energy consumption: Energy must be used efficiently and renewable energy sources should be preferred.
- Water consumption: Water consumption must be minimized and the quality of the water must not be compromised.
- Waste disposal and recycling: Waste must be disposed of properly and recycling methods should be preferred.

The Plant Passport: Your Plant's Travel Document
Did you know? The plant passport is an important tool used in the plant trade to ensure transparency. But what exactly is it for and how does it contribute to transparency? The passport was developed to prevent pests and diseases from being introduced and spread through the trade and transport of plants. The passport contains important information about the origin, type and health of the plants in question so that traders, producers and end customers can track exactly where the plants come from and what condition they are in. The plant passport is, so to speak, an information label on the transport route that helps the responsible plant protection authority to trace the presence of harmful organisms and take action.
A – This is the botanical name of the plant. This includes the scientific name, which consists of genus and species and allows precise identification of the plant.
B – The national registration number, found in the plant passport under the letter B, is used to identify the company that issued the plant passport. This number allows the competent authorities to trace the origin of the plants and take action if necessary.
C – The letter C on the plant passport contains a unique tracking code for your plant. With this tracking code, the plant protection authority can trace the entire journey of the plant.
D –Here the initials of the country of origin on the plant passport provide information about which country the plant in question comes from.
